***MAY WE INTRODUCE*** SASCHA SCHUBERT

Sascha Schubert works as an IT specialist at Core-Backbone. He has now celebrated his 3rd anniversary with the company. Sascha looks after the technical infrastructure. With his specialisation in hardware and software, he is responsible for monitoring, implementing and maintaining our IT systems.

1. 1. What is your position at Core-Backbone?
      I work in support, where my primary responsibilities involve working in our data center, occasional field assignments at Points of Presence (PoPs), and being on-call for emergency support.

   2. What is special about your job? What do you like about your duties?
      What I particularly enjoy about working in support is the variety of tasks. From building hardware and planning cable layouts to implementing measures for things like protection against water intrusion.

   3. What personality traits should you have as an IT-Specialist?
      

      Adaptability: It’s not uncommon to encounter problems or customer inquiries that I’ve never dealt with before. Being able to adapt to such situations is something I consider very important.

   4. How did you enter CBB?
      I was looking for an apprenticeship as an IT specialist for system integration and found the advert for Core Backbone.

   5. You are originally from Kulmbach. How do you like it in Nuremberg?
      So far, I like it in Nuremberg, but I can’t say that I have a particularly strong connection to Nuremberg or my hometown.

   6. How would you rate the work-life balance at CBB?
      I have no complaints about it. The on-call duty took some getting used to at first, but now it’s no longer an issue.

   7. What do you like to do after work?
      Primarily, I spend my free time on PC gaming and related hardware. Before moving to Nuremberg, I was involved in a shooting club for a while, but I haven’t continued that since relocating.

   8. What do you appreciate about CBB?
      I particularly appreciate the trust and respect with which even trainees are treated here. It’s not common to be regarded as a full-fledged employee from the start and entrusted with sensitive tasks. While it can be a bit intimidating to be assigned the secure handling of €80,000 worth of hardware with no supervision just in the second week of work, it’s a testament to the confidence placed in you.

   9. What has been the biggest challenge you have faced at CBB so far?
      I would say the first on-call field service was the most challenging experience. Diagnosing issues through remote monitoring, finding suitable replacement hardware, and performing repairs in an external data centre — all of this on a weekend night and alone — was quite a challenge, even though none of the tasks themselves were new.
   10. You have finished your apprenticeship in July. What is your goal now, what do you want to do?
       So far, I’m just glad to have finished school and haven’t set a new goal yet.
   11. Would you recommend the apprenticeship at CBB to others? Why?
       I would definitely recommend the apprenticeship. As mentioned above, you are treated with great respect and integrated into the company from the very start. All tasks were well taught, and the colleagues are always helpful.
